The Wussification of Survivalism in Video Games

I received the following email back in October which I have edited so I am not accidentally promoting their organization:

Hi Craig!
This may be a long shot… but my name is BLANK and I am contacting you on behalf of Blankety Blank Blank. We have an upcoming video game launch for an Xbox game and are interested in incorporating Archery into the activation.
There are 2 stations on our “scavenger hunt adventure” that will incorporate archery stations: Build the Bow and find the arrow - Both are riddle based, and ultimately results in firing at Bear target in the distance.
I was wondering if you are able to/would be interested in:
- Being a part of the activation and instructing guests on proper use
- Supplying up to 8 Bow and Arrow sets (can be mix and match)

Event Details:
Date – November 6 (set-up) and November 7 (activation day)
Time – Group 1, 40 participants – 11am – 1PM
- Group 2, 40 participants – 2PM – 4PM
Location – Mount Albert, ON
Number of participants – 80 (groups of 5)
If this is something you are able to help out with and are interested, Please respond with a quote price and any details you would need from me to make this happen. Feel free to call my cell at any time if you need further clarification.
Thanks!
BLANK

Now...

Let me just summarize why this is an example of the Wussification of Survivalism.

#1. It is a scavenger hunt to "find the arrow", the kind of thing you did when you were in kindergarten - but designed for adults who apparently don't have the balls or ovaries to do real survivalism.

#2. It involves a "riddle based" challenge, as if you're Sherlock Holmes or Batman trying to solve a riddle from Moriarty or the Riddler. FYI, Sherlock Holmes was mystery pulp fiction written for CHILDREN.

#3. He called it a "Bow and Arrow" like little kids do. How cute is that?

#4. They're going to have completely green people who know nothing about either archery or woodworking trying to do bow-making (I assume that is what he means by "Build the bow". Maybe he means putting together / assembling three piece recurves, which isn't really building a bow.)

#5. Next lets do the math. 40 people shooting in groups of 5 over a 2 hour period. That means there is 8 groups of 5 people. Each group would only be "shooting" for 15 minutes each. Not much time for a safety lecture is there or a lesson in how to shoot properly. It would be more of a "Here you go greenie, have at it! Don't shoot yourself in the foot!"

Wow.

The video game industry has some pretty messed up ideas about "bows and arrows" and "survivalism". Rank amateurs.
